Mornington Peninsula Zero Waste's Picture

Mornington Peninsula Zero Waste

At Mornington Peninsula Zero Waste we are helping to build out the circular economy on our beautiful peninsula by assisting local hospitality and leisure businesses to ensure their waste is repurposed locally (or recycled where applicable), rather than being sent to landfill.

Drink Containers

Drink Containers

Victoria has finally got the Container Deposit Scheme we have been waiting for. Eligible drink containers now attract a 10c deposit which is refundable at collection centres across the state. Mornington Peninsula Zero Waste helps local businesses to reduce their waste costs by providing a FREE pick up service for eligible items funded by the scheme itself. If you’re interested in reducing costs while increasing recycling rates get in touch now.
Coffee Grounds

Coffee Grounds

Coffee is a big part of the culture of the Mornington Peninsula, but the reality is that most of those coffee grounds currently get sent to landfill. We can provide a dedicated collection service, or accept the grounds as part of a broader food waste service.
Food Waste

Food Waste

Diverting food waste from landfill is one of the most powerful ways we can all reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. (Diverting just 50 kg of food waste from landfill is the equivalent of a 60 litre tank of fuel).
Green Waste

Green Waste

We have a number of florists now providing green waste, which is an integral part of the composting process. Over time we will both expand this network, as well as integrating other providers of green waste.

Our cans and bottles were previously sent to landfill due to the lack of small-scale recycling options on this side of the Peninsula. The Container Deposit Scheme is a great idea that is long overdue, and Mornington Peninsula Zero Waste has created an innovative service that is a perfect fit for my business, and with this foundation we are now looking at what other waste streams we can divert.

Gravity Zone Seaford

Our customers and staff want to do more to increase recycling rates, and the custom bins and signage provided by Mornington Peninsula Zero Waste has really helped to maximise the diversion of eligible CDS items from landfill, while reducing our waste charges at the same time. We are now investigating what other waste streams we can divert.

Kellie

Thanks to Mornington Peninsula Zero Waste composting our organic waste is now part of the Luup DNA, as well as being consistent with our values as an organisation.

Bloom Room

Sending our green waste to landfill never made any sense, but until Mornington Peninsula Zero Waste introduced their innovative service we had few other options. The fact that the material is composted right here on the Peninsula is important to myself and our staff.

Secret Garden

I love the idea that the green waste from my florist shop is now being combined with food waste to improve the composting process.

Robyn Ruhl and the garden team

In conjunction with Mornington Peninsula Zero Waste we have set up a suite of compost bins at our Community Garden, and the combination of food and green waste which is being supplied has proven to be the perfect combination for creating a rich supply of compost with minimal effort. This is a great initiative and I encourage everyone to get involved, whether as a business which is generating food waste, or as a member of the Peninsula community who can participate in the composting process.

Wild Grain Restaurant

Our waste charges keep going up because of the various costs involved, including fossil fuels and landfill charges. This is a great initiative that deserves the backing of all hospitality and leisure businesses on the Peninsula, as well as the Council.

Susanne Xipolitos

As a high volume café focused on take away, coffee grounds make up a large proportion of our food waste. Ensuring that waste doesn’t end up in landfill is a great outcome for the environment. We need to get everyone on board.

Biffy

Family Farmer

As a green wedge property we are always aiming for regeneration, both in our soils and flora. Access to material quantities of high-quality food waste is making the task that much easier.

Jen and Adam

Compost Gurus

Mornington Peninsula Zero Waste has customised our organic waste deliveries to ensure our composting is as efficient as possible. A great initiative that will increase food production on the Peninsula.

Rosie Erlandsen

Food waste recipient

Like many Mt Eliza residents we have a large garden. By accepting a combination of food and green waste we are saving on the purchase of compost, with the added bonus of free delivery. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

Rob and Deb Vertessy

Private residents and food waste recipients

We are aiming for food self-sufficiency on our green wedge property at Tuerong, but our soils are in poor condition and in need of significant organic input. Participating in this project is an ideal way to both repurpose this waste and increase high quality food production for our family and friends on the Peninsula.

Chris Eastaway

Private resident and compost ninja

We live close to the cafes and restaurants of Main St Mornington, and it makes perfect sense for that food waste to stay local.

Jasmine Everest

Private resident and compost veteran

Like many Peninsula residents we are fortunate to have plenty of space in our garden for composting, and have been doing so for years. I encourage all residents who are able to do so to participate in this network.
